You mentioned beneficiary desginations for 401(k) accounts. I just got a notice from my employer stating that they are no longer soliciting or honoring such designations, and will only pay the funds directly to the decedent's estate -- which makes a will even more important.<BR/><BR/>2. <I>"I've never attempted to wield our financial power of attorney to accomplish anything..."</I><BR/><BR/>I learned in law school that banks will very often try to dishonor financial powers of attorney, falsely asserting that only authorizations <B><I>on their own forms</I></B> are valid.
